New Cafe logos!

This fall I worked with the partner restaurants The Ridgeback and The Hangar cafe on a branding campaign that would tie the two together in a fun and attractive way that reflected the eccentric and quality aspect of the stores and below are the final results! Look for new merch and signage in the stores soon.

More for Morsel

This fall I had the opportunity to continue the branding campaign I started for the restaurant coffee/shop Morsel and partner Sound Coffee that I made the logo and signage for in the summer and I wanted to show off our progress. Check out the new business cards, to-go menus, gift cards and chalkboard menu below, then go to Morsel on 47th and University ave to taste the flakey buttery biscuits and chocolately smooth coffee that inspired the design. Also check back for packaged jams coming in December!

New Sign Painting Career

So this summer an unexpected but delightful thing happened when I fell into the world of Sign Painting. It all started when the coffeeshop I was working at part time commissioned me to do a quick A-Frame to alert passers by to the delicious coffee inside. They bought me some brushes and house paint and in an hour or so of work I had a pretty sign and a new love. Sign painting combined so many of my favorite things : painting, typography, color and craft, so from there I took the ball rolled with it, and all summer I've been painting up a storm of letters and logos that I also got the pleasure of designing. Check out the pictures below to see the results!

Wedding Invites

Latest project that just rolled out of the printer, into an envelope and out through the mail to the homes of many loved ones is this unique invite I created for my cousin Amy and her fiance Matt. They wanted something "poster-like" and fun, so combining this with the decided upon theme of Fremont, the neighborhood where they live and will be having the wedding, and their wedding colors I came up with this starry theme around Fremont's motto "the Center of the Universe". This led to some investigation into space themed posters from the 50's, and factoring in that both these guys are scientists, I figured something reminiscent of retro scientific design would be fitting, beautiful, romantic in a unique way, and fun to design.

To understand how this looks in print, picture that the orange page is folded into quarters with the "Hey" quarter on top and that you open it up to find the blue poster inside and tour guide map on the back!

Retro Inspired Postage

More posters for the amazing Pepper Proud, who is sometimes referred to as Diane Proud (only in the company of her hometown it seems). This one was inspired by the name of the venue (the Sunset) and 70's posters with that theme. This photo was taken overlooking a beautiful sunset on the cliffs of Discovery Park so it seemed an appropriate juxtaposition. Excited to see it in print!

Poster Spree

This late winter I've been busy making posters for local shows and have found in the process a special place in my heart for this form of design. It's been a blast and a challenge to create something attractive and alluring with complete creative freedom. Poster design is still the Wild West of graphic design and therefore it's a scary yet fun place to be. Check out below what kind of things I came up with and let it be known, if someone you know needs a poster I would love to be able to keep this adventure going.

See if you can find the the hidden images in the first poster and take a guess at what they might allude to because each component plays a key piece in the show. Come out to Ballard on March 16th to see how.

Herkimer Winter Art Show

This January and February of 2013 my art can be seen at the lovely Herkimer coffee on 74th and Greenwood Ave. Stop by and see my collection of oil portrait paintings, as well as my ink drawings hung like never before (experimenting). While there you can check out the bean roasting process up close and personal as well as taste some delicious brewed beverages crafted by talented lovely baristas. Enjoy!
